A Sunwing flight on its way to Toronto from Puerto Plata International Airport detoured to make an emergency landing at the Punta Cana International Airport in the eastern Dominican Republic yesterday, Tuesday 22 October. The jet suffered damage to its engine reportedly due to birds that affected the flight of the B-738. According to reports, 180 passengers were on board. The flight did not return to Puerto Plata Airport because of a thunderstorm in the area. The pilot had reported serious vibrations in the engine. The Civil Aviation Institute (IDAC) confirmed that the plane landed at Punta Cana International Airport at 8:30pm, as reported in Diario Libre.
