Helping fight poverty in Elias Pina

The government, via the Special Fund for Agricultural Development (FEDA), has announced the implementation of a program aimed to strengthen livestock breeding along the border area as part of a plan to fight poverty in that border province.

The project began with a group of small and medium-sized producers from an agricultural cooperative in El Guayabo in Elias Pina province on the border with Haiti. Ranchers received a loan for RD$8.2 million from FEDA to buy the first part of 200 calves and two breeding bulls. The objective of the program is to help feed those people on low incomes who can use the cows to produce milk and other dairy products.
