President Danilo Medina is heading a meeting of the National Migration Council at the Presidential Palace today, Wednesday 23 October 2013. All of the ministries that deal with immigration will be discussing Constitutional Court ruling 168-13 that addresses Dominican nationality and immigration during the meeting.
Minister of Interior and Police Ramon Fadul called the meeting as the court ruling gave the National Migration Council 90 days to report to the Executive Branch on the start of the National Plan for the Regularization of Foreigners.
The ministers of Public Health, Tourism, Interior and Police, Defense, Labor, Foreign Relations and Agriculture will be taking part in the meeting, along with the Presidential legal advisor, the president of the Central Electoral Board (JCE) that oversees the civil registry, Senate president Reinaldo Pared Perez and Abel Martinez, president of the Chamber of Deputies.
During the meeting the new director of the National Institute of Immigration needs to be designated, and the budget of the institute determined to begin to comply with the National Plan for the Regularization of Foreigners.
