Judge sentences metal thief to five years

A man who was caught red-handed taking apart an electricity transmission tower in San Pedro de Macoris has been sentenced to five years in prison and ordered to pay a fine equal to 50 minimum salaries by the Collegiate Tribunal of San Pedro de Macoris. The attempted dismantlement of Tower 159 of the Dominican Electricity Transmission Enterprise (ETED) took place in December 2011. Judge Moises Ferrer said that the judges accepted the charges filed by the Prosecutor General for the Electricity System (PGASE) because the evidence was so overwhelming.
