Senator Wilton Guerrero (PLD-Peravia) is calling on former army captain Raisa de la Cruz Olivares, arrested on accusations of being a key link to drug trafficking within the National Drug Control Agency (DNCD), to reveal the names of other accomplices in the Dominican Republic.
The Senator, one of the first senior public figures to denounce local complicity between the military, police and the government authorities and the drug trafficking industry after the Paya murder case, told the press that the “DNCD was operating as the country’s biggest drugs cartel and is an infiltrated agency at the service of drug trafficking,” as reported by acento.com.do
Senator Guerrero told Listin Diario that the DNCD was a rotten agency, infiltrated by drug traffickers at all levels. Many captains and others with higher ranks are at the service of drug trafficking. The former captain is in Puerto Rico where she is known to be collaborating with the US authorities.
Guerrero says that he recommended that recommended to DNCD present incumbent, General Julio Cesar Souffront purge the DNCD from those in charge of doing the institutional purge.
He said that until an in depth purge is carried out at the DNCD more cases such as this recent one of the captain will come up, a stain on Dominican institutions. He said the authorities need to demand the identifying of the accomplices that are above them.
“It is that she is part of a chain of complicities, the greatest link is not in her office. There are others higher up that are accomplices to the sponsorship of narcotics,” he said.
Acento.com.do reported that several department chiefs, including generals Julio Cesar Ventura Bayonet, Rafael Ramirez Ferreira, Rolando Rosado Mateo and the current Julio Cesar Souffrount, have been timid in dealing with the issue while constantly purging their staff during their terms.
