The president of the National Drugs Council Fidias Aristy warns that the Dominican state may have to return goods confiscated from Antonio del Rosario Puente (Tono Lena) who was extradited to Puerto Rico to face drug trafficking charges, linked to Puerto Rican drug capo Jose Figueroa Agosto. In Puerto Rico he reached a deal with the judiciary that reduced his sentence. In the Dominican Republic provisionally around RD$100 million in assets was seized, and now the National Drugs Council says that the assets may have to be returned to the drug trafficker. Aristy and German Miranda Villalona expressed regret at the lack of a rule that prevents the return of goods seized for asset laundering in the country. The National Drug Control Agency (DNCD) says that Tono Lena controlled drug shipments in the eastern region prior to their export to other countries. He was sentenced to just six years and has already served two. He could serve even less if the US judiciary recognizes the time he served in jail in the Dominican Republic.
“Unfortunately that person will return to our country and we do not have a case open against him. He will come to enjoy the assets that we believe and know were not acquired in a moral way,” said Fidias Aristy. He said that by repatriation, the country renounced the option of criminal prosecution against him, as reported in Diario Libre.
