It was a bird!

International press reports confirm that a bird in flight on 22 October 2013 caused the interruption of the Sunwing flight from Puerto Plata to Toronto, Canada.

As reported, the flight WG-423, a Boeing 737-800 with 180 people on board was climbing out of Puerto Plata when the right-hand engine ingested the bird resulting in severe vibrations. The crew stopped the climb at 12,000 feet and due to weather diverted to Punta Cana for a safe landing about one hour after departure. Maintenance replaced three fan blades.
