Convergencia de Abogados (CONA) has decided to not continue with its corruption complaint against former Minister of Public Works Victor Diaz Rua and the Sargeant Petroleum company, represented by Mustafa A. Abu Naba’a. The Cona president, Yuniol Ramirez Ferreras said in a communication dated 23 October at the District Attorney that after placing the complaint, they received documents that showed that he had a power of attorney to sign the addendums to the contract signed between the Ministry and the private company. Ramirez said that the documents satisfied the doubts that had motivated the submission of the complaint.
Another complaint against the former Minister of Public Works was presented by the Justice First Foundation (Fundacion Primero Justicia), as reported in El Dia last week. Freddy Aguasvivas, a journalist and spokesman for the foundation, accuses the former minister of millions of pesos worth of irregularities in the import of asphalt (AC-30).
