The Executive Branch has sent a bill for consideration by the Chamber of Deputies proposing that highway toll administration be passed on to a new Sociedad Fiduciaria Reservas controlled by the governmental Reservas Bank. The tolls would be transferred to the new trust, by way of Law 278-72. The aim is to create a mechanism to guarantee the development and maintenance of the national road network. The entity would be authorized to secure and contract debt in the local and foreign markets. The contracting of debt cannot extend beyond the duration of the agreement, which would be 30 years.
BanReservas is now under new general manager Enrique Ramirez Paniagua who has announced new plans for the governmental bank. Ramirez also expressed the importance of opening bank branches in small towns nationwide where other banks have not found it profitable enough to operate.
