Colonel Fernandez Dominguez exhumed

On Monday, 28 October the process began to finally take the remains of Colonel Rafael Tomas Fernandez Dominguez to the National Pantheon on Friday 1 November to be laid to rest as a National Hero.

Fernandez is recognized for his work at the start of the Constitutionalist movement that sought to restore President Juan Bosch to power after he was deposed from government following overthrowal in 1963.

The exhumation was accompanied by a small ceremony attended by his family and friends at the Cristo Redentor cemetery from where his remains were taken under military guard to the Museum of the Dominican Man. His remains will be placed in a new urn before being taken to the Military Academy on Thursday 31 October and from there to the National Pantheon the following day.

The exhumation was carried out by a team from the National Institute of Forensic Science (Inacif) headed by the deputy director Ana Falette Mercedes.
