Nine provinces under green alert

Nine Dominican provinces have been placed under a green alert due to weather conditions. Heavy rain has been falling, caused by a passing frontal system over the east of the island and the passage of a tropical wave. The provinces under alert are: Santo Domingo, Samana, Maria Trinidad Sanchez (Nagua), Hato Mayor, San Pedro de Macoris, La Romana, Monte Plata, La Altagracia (Higuey) and Duarte (San Francisco de Macoris, especially the Lower Yuna Basin). According to the National Meteorological Office (Onamet) heavy rains will continue to fall all over the country due to the “humid and unstable” air mass. A green alert is a precaution to be alert for flooding and landslides.
