Felix Abreu, El Feo del Merengue, whose parents are Haitian, says that he has the rights to the catchy song that a Haitian sweets vendor, Rumai made famous after a video of him singing the song appeared on YouTube and went viral. Rumai used the song to sell his sweets.
Abreu says that he registered the song with ONDA when he started out, but it was not being played on the radio. He said he has given several concerts in Haiti and that was where the song became popular and the vendor picked it up. He said that he is a musician and composer and has nothing personal against anyone who sings his song. Abreu said however that he would sue for the author rights as established by law.
