President Danilo Medina received a visit from the US Department of Commerce Under Secretary for International Trade Francisco Sanchez at the Presidential Palace yesterday, Wednesday 30 October. The Presidency reports that Sanchez was visiting to support the installation of a natural gas energy project in the north of the country. Sanchez said he was in the country to tell the President of the US’s support for the project and that there was going to be access to natural gas imports in 2015. “We spoke of the importance of energy for the Dominican Republic; of reducing the cost in order to obtain direct benefits for the citizens of the Dominican Republic,” he said.
The Charge d’Affaires at the United States Embassy, Daniel L. Foote, said: “The government of the United States supports the project totally, and we are here in order to do everything possible that can be done to carry out the project.”
