The Embassy of Haiti in the Dominican Republic has announced new facilities at four Haitian consulates in Barahona, Dajabon, Higuey and Santiago for issuing of extracts of birth certificates and birth certificates for children under the age of two. The Haitian government’s main consulate is in Santo Domingo. The announcement coincides with the push by the Medina administration and the Dominican judiciary to regularize the status of thousands of undocumented people in the country. The Haitian Embassy says that the service, which began on 4 September, is aimed at reducing identity document fraud. The Haitian consulates will be directly linked to the National Archives of Haiti. The Embassy of Haiti is warning Haitians to avoid using document agents who have been known to issue fraudulent documents.
