Hundreds of people congregated in Independence Park in Santo Domingo yesterday afternoon, Monday 4 November in support of the Constitutional Court ruling that establishes who and who is not Dominican.
The event was organized by the National Network for the Defense of Sovereignty and included several similar organizations.
The participants had placards rejecting Haitian immigration and carried Dominican flags.
Amongst the speakers were journalist Consuelo Despradel, Gustavo Casanovas, Pelegrin Castillo, Juan Miguel Castillo Pantaleon, Maria Consuelo Hernandez and Emil Santana.
Santana complained that in San Juan de la Maguana, where he is from, hundreds of Dominican children could not go to school as the classrooms are full of Haitians, that men and women in the province are out of work as all of the work is being done by Haitians, and that the hospitals have the same issue n the beds are all occupied by Haitians.
