Dominican student wins Cisco Networking contest

A 20-year old Las Americas Institute of Technology (ITLA) student, Martin Steve Moran Regla has won first prize in the 2013 Cisco Networking Academy NetRiders contest that uses Cisco’s Web 2.0 technologies to create interactive networking skills. The competition is promoted to students as a great opportunity for networking academy students to learn valuable Networking/IT skills through a series of online exams and simulation activities using Cisco Packet Tracer. He won the first prize that includes a weeklong trip to company HQ in San Jose, California from 12-18 January 2014 to meet with other top achievers from around the world.

ITLA rector Jose Armando Tavarez says the award shows that students at ITLA are receiving a world-class education. Moran competed against 1,900 students from more than 400 academies in 18 countries, including Bolivia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Puerto Rico, Trinidad Tobago, Suriname and Venezuela.

As reported in Diario Libre, Moran said that when he received the email notifying him of the prize he was “speechless.”
