According to speleologists and local authorities, divers have discovered the largest underwater cave in the whole island of Hispaniola, 1000 meters long and at a depth of 25 meters. The cave is situated in the underwater Choco Park in Puerto Plata province, off the north coast.
The discovery was made by divers from the Dominican Speleological Society (DRSS), and could be converted into a major attraction for specialist cave divers from around the world, according to cave researchers Philip Phelton, Eric Hertsens, Dave Bratt, Christal Pitaro and Victoria Alexandro.
They said that the cave has at least two entrances and is one of the most beautiful they have ever seen with unique geological formations, collapsed rocks, a dry cave and many more details to discover.
