President Medina inaugurates new production line

President Danilo Medina attended the inauguration of a RD$700 million expansion of the San Miguel del Caribe soft drink production plant in El Caimito in the northwestern province of Santiago Rodriguez yesterday, Tuesday 12 November. The company makes Kola Real and other brands.

The president of the board of the company that employs 1,600 people, Jorge Ananos, said that the new production line would increase their capacity by 54,000 additional bottles an hour, which will enable them to enter new overseas markets.

During the ceremony the Santiago Rodriguez Chamber of Commerce presented plaques to President Medina and the Peruvian founders of San Miguel Industries, Jorge Ananos and his wife, Tania Alcazar de Ananos.

The governor of Santiago Rodriguez, Miguel Angel Nunez Rodriguez and Tania Alcazar both stressed the importance of developing the local economy.

The Administrative Minister of the Presidency, Jose Ramon Peralta, Peruvian Ambassador Enrique Palacios, United States trade attache Isabella Cascarano, and governor Miguel Angel Nunez Rodriguez were also among the guests at the event.
