Lawyer Fernando Casanova y Llaca is calling for the resignation of Senator Felix Bautista of the province of San Juan de la Maguana. In an op-ed contribution to El Caribe Casanova writes that this would be best for all concerned because of Bautista’s multiple occupations and interests that make him waste time in the legislature.
Bautista is organizational secretary of the ruling PLD party. “Also, the Midas Bautista is a construction industry businessman with several big companies and small companies that operate in Panama and Haiti and who knows where else,” he writes. “Also, because Mr. Bautista has or had, because some are in jail, a group of lady friends, known as ‘the champagne girls,’ who take up a great deal of time for fun while they secure government works contracts,” he continues.
“There are too many activities so to avoid tiring out his mind, leave the small things such as thinking and making laws for the country and working, in non-profit organizations, such as foundations called “the illuminating” National Integrated Development Foundation (FUNDI) and the Felix Bautista Foundation (FFB), which work in San Juan, a province so full of poor people and others from this region that is on the border of Haiti, based on working with young people, as the hard-working senator says in his web page.” The website also reports that the senator is working on his thesis for a doctorate in Economy from the Universidad del Pais Vasco in Spain. “The topic of the thesis is …’the impact of government concessions and public services: The Vision of Europe and Latin America, the Dominican case.’ A thesis that should be required reading for the faculties of engineering, architecture, economy, and business, given the economic success of the doctoral candidate,” writes Casanova.
Casanova says that in many activities, with politics not being the exception, there are people who can be very capable and high achievers, but there comes a moment when they collapse because their level of incompetence has arrived. “That is, when adding an extra task all the rest of their activities begins to degenerate and their brains begin to commit mistakes that can destroy all that they have built up to that moment of inflection when they take another step in the many tasks they are handling. Especially now, with the international legal suits. And we do not want that a simple tailor’s assistant, who even having been in jail for misappropriation of funds, who has achieved so many accomplishments, so much money, can collapse for wanting to be also, senator,” he concludes.
