Liriano Sanchez fired from the Police force

The Executive Branch has ordered the dismissal of police lieutenant colonel Johan Emilio Liriano Sanchez. The Police, under General Manuel Castro Castillo, link him to contract killings related to drug trafficking operations. Police spokesman Colonel Jacobo Mateo Moquete said the dismissal was recommended after investigations by the Police Internal Affairs Department found evidence of close links with pilots who were dedicated to ‘drug bombing.’ Liriano has not been able to justify the source of his many assets, valued at more than RD$30 million. He also has a penal case open in the United States.

Nevertheless, despite the dismissal, acento.com.do reports that Liriano has received privileged treatment from the National Drug Control Agency (DNCD) where former president, Major General Rolando Rosado Mateo and personnel at the prosecution offices have been lenient in dealing with the accusations presented by the Police under Major General Manuel Castro Castillo.

El Caribe reports that Liriano, who was in charge of the DNCD at Las Americas International Airport, made a name for himself when he threatened journalists with implicating them in drug cases if they continued to denounce drug smuggling.
