Metro buses ‘just parked’

The Metro Office (Opret) recently imported 100 buses to start the Metro feeder routes but they are parked and rusting at the Armada (Navy) base, which is near the sea, reports Diario Libre today, Friday 15 November. The Metro failed to secure the funds to continue to construction of the third phase of the Metro. As reported, RD$1.2 billion was allocated to the service in the 2014 budget but this will only be enough to fund the operation of the two existing lines. Last year, despite the government assigning RD$2 billion to the Metro, OPRET argued it was not enough to build the bus stations for the buses. Diario Libre writes that the big winners of the planned third stretch would have been residents in eastern Santo Domingo who could connect to the city center using the line.
