Metropolitan Transport Authority (AMET) chief General Juan Geronimo Brown Perez said yesterday, Thursday 14 November that 80% of deaths in traffic accidents were caused by motorcyclists. He said that reckless driving by motorcyclists has caused 324 deaths so far this year. Another 98 deaths occurred in crashes involving vehicles, buses and others. As reported in Diario Libre, General Brown said that while many accidents occur because of speeding, illegal turns and running red lights, most are due to the irresponsibility of motorcyclists. He said in the past two weeks alone 18 motorcyclists have been killed in accidents across the country. In 2012, 115 motorcyclists lost their lives, and most were drunk, as reported in Diario Libre.
