El Salvador delegation visits

Yesterday, Monday 18 November, President Danilo Medina met with the president of the Legislative Assembly of El Salvador, Sigfrido Reyes and his deputy Nidia Diaz.

The reason for the visit was to express support for the Dominican Republic that will be chairing the Central American Integration System in January. SICA is the economic and political organization of Central American states and the Dominican Republic in place since February 1993. Reyes said he visited to exchange ideas for strengthening democracy in both countries.

The visitors highlighted the enthusiasm of the Dominican President and his efforts to integrate the country amongst those who are fighting to improve government, and said that he had the respect of his country and was held in great affection in the whole of Latin America and the Caribbean.

Reyes said that he is aware that the Medina government is committed to helping the people fight poverty, solving the country’s structural problems and enhancing the DR’s role abroad.

Sigfrido Reyes said that there was an excellent relationship between the Dominican Republic and Central America, not just politically but also socially and culturally.

He recalled that on January 1st next year, President Medina would take over the presidency of SICA and would bring new challenges and coordinate actions and initiatives throughout the region.

Dominican Senator Julio Cesar Valentin and the Salvadoran Ambassador in the Dominican Republic and Haiti, Carlos Calles Castillo, were also at the meeting.
