The Minister of Interior and Police Jose Ramon Fadul has announced that time restrictions on the sale of alcohol in bars, discotheques and restaurants would be lifted from 10 December to 8 January 2014.
He stated that the lifting of restrictions over the Christmas and New Year period would help music groups and singers find work, as there was more demand for their services during that period. He warned, however, that the police presence would be increased to prevent any problems and public order offences.
The Minister said that people were not allowed to enter bars restaurants or discotheques with firearms, and minors cannot enter or be sold alcohol. Fadul stressed that the establishment owners were responsible for maintaining law and order.
Doctors had called on the government not to lift the 2-3am curfew during the holidays, saying that drunk driving caused too many tragic accidents.
