San Cristobal Judge Jelvin Koury Lorenzo has sent a former Lieutenant Colonel, Johan Emilio Liriano Sanchez, to jail in Najayo on three months remand. He is linked to a group of drug dealers and hit men.
The public prosecutor from San Cristobal, Diomeris Soto, said that she hoped when the case came to trial he would be convicted and sentenced for money laundering and murder.
His defense attorney said they would assess the judgment before deciding whether or not to appeal.
Liriano Sanchez, who served as an adviser to the former chief of the National Drug Control Agency (DNCD) was stripped of his job on 14 November. According to a police report he could not justify his possession of several properties, belongings and bank accounts valued at more than RD$30 million.
