Dominicans have their own ways of saying many things. Now, a new reference book can pinpoint the exact meaning.
The Dominican Academy of Language has announced the publication of the Dictionary of Dominican Spanish (Diccionario del Espanol Dominicano – DED), with more than 11,000 entries of words in Dominican Spanish with 14,000 meanings. Examples are taken from Dominican authors. The dictionary includes 4,250 phrases and 8,000 usage examples that only have meaning here.
In an event held on Friday, 22 November, Academy President Bruno Rosario Candelier presented the work by team coordinator Maria Jose Rincon who worked with Fabio Guzman Ariza and Roberto Guzman of the Fundacion Guzman Ariza Pro Academia Dominicana de la Lengua, the sponsor of the new dictionary. Rincon is a graduate in Hispanic Philology from the Universidad de Sevilla in Spain.
The new book is available for RD$800 or US$20 at the Guzman Ariza law and publications building at Calle Pablo Casals 12, Ensanche Serralles (west of Supermercado Nacional of Lope de Vega), call Tel 809 540-3455 or write to libreria@gacetajudicial.com.do
