The National District Prosecutor, Yeni Berenice Reynoso is conducting investigations to establish if anyone has died as a result of taking counterfeit medicines.
Investigating the case of the PRSC party member, Jose del Carmen Cruz, who is accused of selling fake medicines she said that it was a serious crime given that it could affect the lives of hundreds of people, and that this sort of crime could not be considered in the same way as other types of counterfeiting.
Cruz, who was arrested following a TV report by investigative journalist Nuria Piera, was sent to jail for three months on remand by National District Judge Ariella Cedano.
