The National Drug Control Agency (DNCD) has announced that during the period from June to November this year, they have confiscated 2,029.4 kilos of cocaine and have arrested 56 people linked to cocaine dealing.
Most of the drugs were confiscated at ports, airports and in coastal areas of the country, some being transported to here and some leaving the country for international destinations. The drugs were usually in containers or ships, false-bottomed suitcases, bags, inside shoes, wheelchairs and canned food, as well as in the stomachs of ‘mules’ n people used to carry drugs.
Most of the drugs were found at the Las Americas International Airport (SDQ), followed by Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ), Cibao International Airport (STI) in Santiago and then La Romana International Airport (LRM).
Amongst those arrested were 19 men and 10 women. Twelve were Dominican, two Dominican-American, two Spanish-Dominican, two Dutch-Dominican, two from Curacao, two Italians, two Puerto Ricans, one German, one Barbadian, a Colombian, a Spaniard and a US citizen.
The DNCD highlighted the support from different bodies such as the Dominican Navy, Army and Air Force and the cooperation of the DEA n the US Drug Enforcement Administration during nine operations in containers and ships at the ports in the country.
