A lunch at the Presidential Palace today, Thursday 28 November marks the official start of celebrations of the Dominican win of the Major League Baseball’s World Baseball Classic in March 2013. The celebration is being held now that the MLB season has ended to enable to ball players to attend. During the event the Dominican team members will describe their experiences on the way to winning the classic. The DR had failed in the two other classics that were won by Japan and The Netherlands. A parade of the winning team will then take place as of 3:30pm leaving from the Quisqueya Ball Park and touring several leading city avenues.
In the evening, a merengue show is planned for the stadium, with performances by Alex Matos (salsa), Eddy Herrera (merengue) and Nini Caffaro signing the national anthem. The keynote speeches that evening will be by the president of the Dominican Baseball Federation Hector (Tito) Pereyra, DR team managers Moises Alou, and Tony Pena. The program also includes the screening of a documentary by Miguel Vasquez who followed the team from the first games in Tampa to the finals in San Francisco, California. The evening will end with a fireworks display.
