President Danilo Medina inaugurated the San Pedro de Macoris Bypass yesterday, Wednesday 27 November with church leaders and local dignitaries present for the ribbon-cutting ceremony. The 11.5-kilometer stretch forms part of the East Corridor that connects Santo Domingo and Punta Cana. During the ceremony the government announced the opening to the general public of the La Romana Bypass that will be officially inaugurated on Monday, 2 December. The Minister of Public Works, Gonzalo Castillo said that the road cost US$82 million and will provide a big economic boost to the entire eastern region of the country. It was built by Brazilian construction company Odebrecht.
