The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) is sending a mission to the Dominican Republic 2-6 December to analyze the human rights situation in the Dominican Republic. As reported, the IACHR mission will meet with government and civil society representatives in Santo Domingo and the provinces. The IACHR has advocated application of jus solis in the Dominican Republic, despite the Supreme Court of Justice having established in 2005 that the “in transit” in the Constitution means having legal residence in the country.
The IACHR says the aim is to get “a better understanding of the human rights challenges and advances as well as receive complaints.”
The delegation that will visit the Dominican Republic from December 2-6 will include IACHR Chairman Jose de Jesus Orozco Henriquez and members of the Executive Secretariat.
During its visit, the IACHR will set up temporary headquarters in Santo Domingo.
At the end of the visit Commission will present its preliminary observations at a press conference on 6 December.
This will be the IACHR’s seventh onsite visit to the country.
