Solidaridad Fronteriza (SF) and Asociaciones Solidarias de Obreros Migrantes de la Linea Noroeste (Asomilin), two groups that provide support to immigrant workers have announced that this year they will only back Haitians who have passports and visas to enter the Dominican Republic. They said that any Haitians who seek to travel only with the carnet issued by those institutions would be left off the list that the organizations prepare to Migration to allow for swifter border clearance. Father Regino Martinez said that the measure would ensure transparent cooperation with the Dominican authorities in the framework of the National Foreigner Legalization Plan. He said last year 2,230 members of Asomilin returned to Haiti for the holidays, but they expect only 1,000-1100 Haitian workers to do so this year. The organizations have been helping to document Haitians and since 2009 they have helped 4,519 Haitians obtain birth certificates, 480 passports and 852 visas.
