The Minister of Foreign Relations Carlos Morales Troncoso has been on leave of absence since he left the country on 22 September for medical treatment in the United States. His departure has coincided with the worst international media crisis to affect the Dominican Republic, with countless reports carried misinformation. Many of these subsequently have been corrected by efforts carried out by Dominican diplomats abroad. Morales Troncoso has not commented on the situation, and the Minister of the Presidency Gustavo Montalvo has ended up taking on several elements of the Foreign Minister’s role in Morales’ absence.
Now a report in El Nacional published on Sunday, 1 December indicates that Minister of Foreign Relations Carlos Morales Troncoso would resume his role as president of the PRSC on 26 January, when the senior party posts are up for renewal. The source told El Nacional that he is likely to be re-elected by the 1,305 voting members.
Morales reportedly returned to the country on Tuesday, 26 November and met with the party executive commission on Thursday 28 November.
The government’s foreign service has been criticized for being highly politicized with millions every year spent to keep non-working personnel on the ministry’s staff in detriment to the true roles of the department.
