Francina Hungria works to introduce beep blind baseball

Dominican engineer, Francina Hungria, who lost her eyesight after being shot during a robbery in Santo Domingo last year, has decided to go to bat for introducing baseball playing to blind people. When she was in Miami where she went to explore options for saving her eyesight, she learned about beep blind baseball and is working to introduce it in the Dominican Republic. She says that players including Albert Pujols and Neifi Perez have expressed willingness to help. “My goal is to introduce the rules, and then bring the equipment, set up a game between ballplayers, show business personalities and journalists, and blind people,” she told Diario Libre. The game would be a benefit for raising funds to buy special bats for blind people. “I want the first sound game to be played at the Quisqueya Ball Park,” she says.
