Yesterday afternoon, Monday 2 December, President Danilo Medina inaugurated the stretch of the Eastern Corridor (Corredor del Este) that links San Pedro de Macoris with La Romana. Driving time from San Pedro to Punta Cana will now take less than one hour.
Minister Gonzalo Castillo said that the 22km stretch would create new jobs and contribute to economic growth in both San Pedro and La Romana, adding that more tourists are expected to visit more parts of the country thanks to the new highway connections.
The highway, which was blessed by the Bishop of Higuey, Nicanor Pena, was designed to carry more than 2,000 vehicles a day traveling at 100 kph.
