Remains in the Pantheon not Caamano

The National Institute of Forensic Science (INACIF) announced yesterday, Monday 2 December that following DNA tests on the possible remains of Colonel Francisco Alberto Caamano Deno, which were recently exhumed, that they bear no biological link to members of his family.

The remains were recently laid to rest in the National Pantheon in Santo Domingo.

Attorney General Francisco Dominguez Brito made the announcement and said it was his duty to inform the country that they were not Caamano’s remains given his importance to Dominican history.

In order to carry out the DNA testing, three samples were used, two of which were usable, obtained from Francis Alberto Caamano Acevedo, Alberto Alexander Caamano, Freddy Rafael Caamano Deno and Maria Milagros Caamano Deno.

The press conference where the announcement was made was attended by relatives of Colonel Caamano Deno, Culture Minister Jose Antonio Rodriguez and the Director of National History, Juan Daniel Balcacer.
