The Dominican Armada (Navy) has arrested 84 people who were trying to reach Puerto Rico in a ‘yola’ in the area known as la Playita de la Loma de Honduras, in Samana province.
Vice Admiral Edwin R. Dominici Rosario, Commander General of the Navy said that the detainees were 52 Dominicans and 32 Haitians.
He said that they also confiscated the 30-foot boat with 2 outboard motors and 11 gasoline containers.
This arrest bring the total so far this year to 3,209 of whom 1,410 have been Haitian, 107 Cubans and seven Brazilians.
