Santo Domingo and other parts of the country will enjoy another Night of Museums this coming Saturday, 7 December. In this traditional cultural event a group of museums and cultural institutions are cooperating to remain open late into the night to introduce themselves and encourage new visitations. Access to participating museums is free. The event starts at 6:30pm at the Museum of Modern Art in Plaza de la Cultura. But many museums nationwide, including many in the Colonial City of Santo Domingo, will be open from 9am and will not be charging admission. In Santiago the museums include the Monument to the Heroes of the Restoration, in Puerto Plata, the San Felipe Fort, the Camilo Carrau Art Gallery, and the Gregorio Luperon Museum-House. In Higuey, the La Altagracia Museum at the Basilica La Altagracia is also participating.
On Saturday, there will be live music shows, special exhibits, and arts and crafts sales as part of the event.
