The Dominican Senate has passed a resolution that recommends to the Monetary Board, the Central Bank and the Superintendence of Banks revoke the 1% fee for international purchases via credit cards issued by Dominican banks. Tommy Galan, the author of the resolution said, according to El Nuevo Diario, that the regulations for credit cards written by the Monetary Board says in article 24 that the card issuers cannot collect additional commissions from the cardholders for expenses incurred. He also mentioned the fact that the Constitution of the Republic confers on the National Congress the task of monitoring and controlling the public policies that the government and its institutions implement. He noted that the financial institutions would earn RD$600 million from this operation and this money would not enter the state treasury.
