The director of the Presidential Social Plan, Cesar Prieto, has announced that the government will distribute more than 800,000 food boxes to poor families over the Christmas period. The overall cost of the program is RD$1 billion. The distribution will take place from 19 to 22 December and will be managed through the Social Plan regional offices, provincial governor offices, churches, community organizations and NGOs. The boxes contain rice, beans, cornstarch, wine, rum, apples, grapes, eggnog, bread loaves and other traditional Christmas meal products.
