Prisoner Sobeida Felix Morel is claiming that the authorities and the Public Prosecution Service have reneged on the deal that she made with the Public Prosecutor of the National District whereby she handed over her goods that were confiscated and cooperated in exchange for them not to oppose her being conditionally released from jail when she had served half of her sentence.
During a court appearance in the National District yesterday, Tuesday 10 December, Felix Morel demanded that the National District prosecutors keep their part of the bargain, saying that she told them everything she knew about those involved with the drug lord Jose David Figeroa Agosto and if the authorities wanted to keep this information locked away then that wasn’t her problem.
She said that as part of the deal she had to hand over her belongings and that now the Attorney General’s office was saying that it was nothing to do with them, but with the Public Prosecution Service. But, she said, if that was true, why was the State going to sell all her belongings at auction the next week?
As far as she understood, the former Attorney General Radhames Jimenez Pena, knew about the deal because, if not, he would have asked for a 20 year sentence for her for money laundering instead of five years, reduced to two and a half which she had already served. She said that the others were also given five years and had not helped the authorities.
She went on to say that after having made the deal she had two meetings with Prosecutor Yeni Berenice Reynoso, to whom she gave all of the information, but it appeared to have been put away in a drawer and no investigations had been carried out.
She went on to say that she feared for her safety in Najayo women’s prison.
