District prosecutor says Sobeida’s papers are missing

National District prosecutor Yeni Berenice Reynoso says that she cannot accept the deal her predecessor reportedly signed with Sobeida Felix, the lover of Puerto Rican drug capo Jose David Figueroa Agosto as valid, because the original documents are not available in her department. She said she has never seen the original documents. Felix is seeking to be released from jail halfway through her five-year term, claiming that the deal established that state prosecutors would not oppose her serving only half of her sentence. Reynoso’s predecessor Alejandro Moscoso Segarra, now a judge of the Supreme Court of Justice, says that the documents were filed at the prosecutor office. Reynoso says she knows of the case because Sobeida Felix’s lawyer Felix Portes supplied a copy. Reynoso says she needs the originals to accept the request for release.

Moscoso Segarra says that the agreements was not part of the case in which Felix Morel is accused of being part of the network that laundered assets belonging to Jose Figueroa Agosto and thus did not have to be part of this. The former prosecutor said he is willing to serve as witness. He said that the agreement was reached after Sobeida Felix was sentenced to five years and thus did not have to be filed with the First Collegiate Court of the First Instance of the National District as Reynoso is asking. He said that in the case of Leavy Nin Batista, Figueroa’s wife who was sentenced for links to the asset-laundering ring, the documents were part of the case. He said the documents were filed at the District Attorney office until the last day he worked there. He said that Felix Morel’s defense team received the original documents that the notary public had certified.
