Special Commission for Los Haitises

President Danilo Medina has issued Decree 360-13 that creates the Special Commission for the Los Haitises National Park. The commission has been given 60 days to conduct a survey to establish the present situation of the area and propose solutions to the problems. The team needs to prepare a special project to solve the problem of declining natural resources and ecosystems in the park and the relocation of local residents.

The commission members are: Minister of Environment Bautista Rojas Gomez, Minister of Defense Admiral Sigfrido Pared Perez, director of the Dominican Agrarian Institute Radhames Valenzuela, director of the State Sugar council (CEA) Jose Joaquin Dominguez and the director of the National Institute of Housing (INVI) Alma Fernandez. Others are senators for Samana Prim Pujals, Hato Mayor Ruben Dario Cruz, Monte Plata, Charles Mariotti, Duarte, Amilcar Romero and Sanchez Ramirez, Felix Vasquez.

Other members re the governors of Hato Mayor and Monte Plata, Guadalupe Vasquez and Andres Concepcion, the advisor of the United Farmers Community Movement (MCCU), Francisco Antonio Santos, Alejandro Garcia, president of MCCU, Simona Naveo, of the committee of residents who have been evicted from El Valle and Sabana de la Mar, Juan Castro, of the Campo Verde Association of “Los Haitises”, from Sanchez.
