The mother of Canadian tourist Jordan Morrison, who was killed in the Dominican Republic, says the man accused of killing him has won his latest appeal.
Carrie McGinnis said that Dmytro Aref Yev, who was sentenced to 10 years in prison for killing 19-year old Morrison in Punta Cana in 2011, would only have to spend three years behind bars.
She says most of that time has already been served.
Since his death the family has been travelling back and forth to the Dominican Republic for three years for trials and the appeal process. McGinnis and Morrison’s father Dale Morrison were in the country for this latest decision.
Five people were accused of killing Morrison. Three people were acquitted and Yev, a Montreal resident, was the only person sentenced to jail time. Bouzid Redha was not convicted.
