The general administrator of the State Subsidized Canteens (Comedores Nacionales), Ramon Rodriguez (Monchy) has announced that the government will hold 172 Christmas dinners across the country, starting on Thursday 19 December in the south, through the Cibao region, then the east and finally Santo Domingo on Monday 30 December, at a cost of over RD$180 million. In other areas the ingredients for the dinner will be sent instead.
Today, Wednesday 18 December there will be a Christmas lunch for people on a low income in the 33 canteens across the country from 11am to 2pm before the canteens close for the holidays. They are scheduled to reopen to the public on 15 January next year.
The Christmas dinners will include bread, rice and pigeon peas, chicken and pork, salad, grapes, apples and pears.
