The Leones del Escogido struggled with the Toros del Este in the Quisqueya Stadium last night, Wednesday 18 December, and the Leones came away with a memorable victory. A dramatic homerun by Carlos Santana, the Reds’ third baseman was the winning run in the 5-4 victory over the Toros.
In Santiago’s famous Estadio Cibao, the Aguilas Cibaenas ended a two-game slide in a wonderful manner: by defeating their historical rivals, the Tigres del Licey with a four-run rally in the last half of the eighth inning. The rally was led by center fielder Juan Carlos Perez who produced a two-run single to seal the victory. The 7-3 victory maintained the Aguilas in second place, half a game behind the Leones and a game and a half above the Tigres.
The Estrellas Orientales defeated the Gigantes del Cibao 9-4 thanks to a mighty homerun by Alfredo Marte and 4-4 batting by Rogers. The Estrellas will need a real baseball miracle to classify for the next playoff round of the tournament, but they have complicated things for the Gigantes and the Toros.
