There’s a Westin in Punta Cana now

President Danilo Medina was in Punta Cana on Saturday, 21 December for the inauguration of The Westin Puntacana Resort & Club at Playa Blanca beach and part of the Puntacana Resort & Club complex. The hotel has 204 rooms right on the beach. The hotel makes it possible for guests to book just the hotel, which also has facilities for meetings and weddings. Guests will have access to the La Cana and Corales golf courses, Six Senses Spa and the Punta Cana Ecological Reserve and are five minutes away from the Punta Cana International Airport, the best connected in the Caribbean.

Speaking at the event, Haydee Kuret, president of the board of the Punta Cana Group commented that tourism in the area was up 11% this year, and prospects are for a better 2014 due to the excellent road connections that enhance the visitor experience.

Allison Reid, Senior Vice President, North America Development for Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. represented the chain at the opening. Starwood also operates the Four Points by Sheraton Puntacana Village Hotel that opened in late 2012. President Medina was accompanied by Administrative Minister Jose Ramon Peralta, Tourism Minister Francisco Javier Garcia and Public Works Minister Gonzalo Castillo.
