41,000 marriages and 17,000 divorces a year

Statistics from the National Statistics Office (ONE) show that there were more than 41,000 weddings a year from 2008 to 2012. December is the preferred month for weddings, with more than 5,000. In 2012 there were 43,307 weddings, in 2011 there were 44,253.

Statistics from the Central Electoral Board (JCE) show that from 2008 to 2012 there were 87,010 divorces, averaging around 17,000 a year, as reported in Diario Libre. The stats per year are 17,181 (2008), 16,409 (2009), 17,64 (2010), 17,927 (2011) and 17,820 (2012). The information is in the Dominicana en Cifras 2013 report recently released by the National Statistics Office (ONE). Most divorces take place in the National District (Santo Domingo) with 22.61%, followed by Santiago with 17.66%, the province of Santo Domingo with 12.24% and La Vega 6.9%. As reported, July is the month when most divorces are finalized.
