Legislator Minou Tavarez Mirabal and her brother Manuel Enrique Tavarez Mirabal have opened a legal case accusing former Minister of the Armed Forces Ramiro Matos Gonzalez and officers under his command of torturing and murdering the guerilla fighters of the Las Manaclas, on 21 December 1963, including their father Manuel Aurelio Tavarez Justo (Manolo). The case was presented at the Justice Department and received by Attorney General Franicsco Dominguez Brito on Friday, 20 December. They are also accusing Matos of the murder of Jose Antonio Barreiro Rijo (Tony), Ruben Alfonso Marte Aguayo, Federico Jose Cabrera Gonzalez, Jaime Ricardo Socias, Fernando Arturo Ramirez, Ruben Diaz Moreno, Juan Caonabo Abel, Alfredo Peralta Michel, Antonio Filion, Manuel de los Santos Reyes Diaz, Jose Daniel Fernandez and Manuel de Jesus Fondeur. Several Foundations including Heroes del 30 de Mayo, Hermanas Mirabal, Manolo Tavarez, Heroes de Constanza, Maimon y Estero Hondo, Testimonio and Amaury German are also participating in the case. They are requesting the imposition of a RD$3 million bond, an exit ban and house arrest on the former minister of defense. They are requesting RD$50 million in compensation for the damage caused.
