The Pedro Henriquez Urena National University (UNPHU) will start a research project that has been declared in the national interest. The project, budgeted at just over RD$7 million, will investigate the environment in the deterioration process of the construction materials of national landmarks. Eminent architect Esteban Prieto Vicioso will be in charge of the project and financing will come from the National Fund for Innovation and Scientific Development.

A deputy minister from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Placido Gomez, told Listin Diario reporters that there has been a steady deterioration of the national landmarks and that the country has not been able to find a solution to the problem.
